the only criteria were rarity - yes. Diamonds have been
mined from the earth with ferocity since about 543 B.C.
Cubic zirconium had not been regularly produced until
1979 in Russia. In fact, diamond mining reached a height
of 117 million carrots mined in 1997 while cubic
zirconium production reached only 50 million. |
